Principal and Founder: Laura Cox
Bio:
Laura moved to Alaska in 2009, and here she found her true calling—serving others, particularly those in need. Drawing on her background in law enforcement and emergency response, she began her work as a Medic for CSP, providing critical frontline care to vulnerable individuals. Whether it was tending to wounds, treating cold exposure and hypothermia, or escalating care when necessary, Laura was always ready to step in. She was trained as an EMT II and utilized her law enforcement background in the application of de-escalation techniques, ensuring that every person she encountered received not only medical attention but also compassion and dignity.
Her commitment to helping others led her to case management and supportive services in 2012 when she joined an Anchorage area nonprofit housing and supportive services provider. As a Case Manager, she applied her training in psychology and social work, mastering the complex processes of client intake for supportive housing programs. She quickly became skilled at navigating social service systems and building strong partnerships within the industry—connections that would later allow her to expand the reach of the programs she worked with.
In 2016, when many of the programs Laura was involved in transitioned to another nonprofit organization, she moved with them. Recognized for her expertise, she was named Program Manager for Supportive Services, overseeing various programs while continuing hands-on case management. With a deep understanding of community needs, Laura collaborated with peers and industry partners to develop and implement new supportive housing initiatives, growing the department to better serve those in need.
By 2020, her organization had officially established the Supportive Housing Department, naming Laura as its Director, a role she continues to serve in today. Under her leadership, the department has grown to a team of 20, providing support to more than 350 individuals at any given time. In 2024 alone, Laura and her team served well over 700 clients through various programs and initiatives.
In 2024, Laura launched YL Services and Consulting, a dedicated firm committed to empowering nonprofits and businesses in the Anchorage community. Through her expertise, she provides strategic guidance and hands-on support in key areas such as management, sustainable growth, compliance, grant applications, and strategic planning. With a strong focus on housing and homeless services, Laura helps organizations navigate challenges and maximize their impact—ensuring they thrive and create lasting change.
Laura's motto and mantra is simple: "Be the change you wish to see in the world". She lives and breathes this every day of her life, and recognizing the world's needs will always outpace her sole abilities to address them, she strives to catalyze her relentless pursuit to address those needs by seeking to provide her guidance, expertise, training and approach to others striving to do the same.
